We believe in the power of radical commitment. Our church is not just a gathering place for worship, but a catalyst for positive change.
We are actively involved in serving our community, meeting the needs of our neighbors, and making a lasting impact.
We are committed to living out the values of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to love God, love others, and share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Love is at the core of who we are and what we do. We love because God loves us. We are committed to the greatest commandment to love God. We do this through our participation in worship, our dedication to his word (the Bible), and through lives saturated in and characterized by prayer.
We are also committed to the second greatest commandment to love people. We do this through welcoming people to come as they are, caring for each other, serving each other, and coming to the aid of “the least of these” in the Union Park community.
Spiritual growth is essential to a relationship with Christ and the journey to become more like him. We recognize that although there is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach to spiritual growth, some intentionality and self-discipline is required.
We seek to help people grow in Christ through various means and methods, including worship, weekly classes, in-home small groups, and goal-oriented mentoring, coaching, and discipleship. We also recognize that spiritual growth is not possible without a commitment to and immersion in Scripture (the Bible) and prayer.
To go means to be faithful and obedient to The Great Commission given to us by Christ himself. Love and growth should propel us to go and make disciples, introducing them to the love that is found in Christ and the growth that occurs when one fully commits his or her life to him.
We go by acknowledging we serve a sent God who now sends us into our homes, families, neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces to proclaim the gospel and make disciples.
(Matthew 28:18-20, Psalm 86:15, John 3:16-17, John 15:9-17, 2 Peter 3:9, John 17:18, John 20:21)
We invite you to explore our beliefs and join us in our pursuit of living out our faith in boldness and passion.
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons; that these are equal in every divine perfection, and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence and redemption.
We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayers, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, and ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and personal visible return to earth.
We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide.
We believe that all people are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore, under condemnation. We believe that the Holy Spirit regenerates those who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior.
We believe in the universal church, living spiritual bodies of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible profession of faith, and associated for worship, work and fellowship. We believe that God has lain upon the members of the local church the primary task of giving the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.
We believe that all Christians should live for the glory of God and the well-being of all people; that their conduct should be blameless before the world; that they should be faithful stewards of their possessions; and that they should seek to realize for themselves and others the full stature of maturity in Christ.
We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church; baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the triune God. We believe that Christ instituted the Lord’s Supper for commemoration of His death. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Humility and Selflessness.
We will exercise humility as we live in relationship with one another. We will realize that our mindset should be the same as Christ Jesus who “made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant” and who “humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” In humility, we will acknowledge our own personal shortcomings as we follow God’s direction for the future of our church, whatever that may be. We will consider what is best for our church as we seek to glorify God, not what may be best for us individually or for a particular group within the church. In selflessness, we are willing to sacrifice and be inconvenienced for the sake of the gospel. (See Philippians 2:5-8; Romans 7:14-19; 1 Corinthians 9:19-23)
We will value each other as people gifted by God and as members of the body of Christ. We will work to live in respectful relationship with one another, to clothe ourselves with the compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience that flow out of the abiding life in Christ. We will offer our ideas and opinions with love, grace, and truth, letting our “conversations always be full of grace, seasoned with salt.” We will speak words, both privately and publicly, which build each other up and do not tear each other down. (See 1 Corinthians 12:1-31a; Colossians 3:12-17; Colossians 4:6; Ephesians 4:29)
We will actively listen with open minds to the constructive opinions, ideas, and concerns of others. We will, when a response is appropriate, respond with thoughtfulness and sensitivity recognizing that we “should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” When we do speak, we will do so gently and not harshly. (See James 1:19-20; Proverbs 15:1)
We will accept disagreement, conflict, and assessment as normal and natural. We will deal with difficult issues in a prayerful, gentle, and loving way. When we disagree with or wish to offer constructive criticism of another, we will always go first to that person and communicate directly with them before involving others. We will direct others to do the same as we will remember the words of Christ who commanded us to “go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister.” We will extend the grace of God to one another, to acknowledge when we have done wrong, to seek forgiveness, and to “forgive each other just as God in Christ also has forgiven us.” We will actively pursue peace with one another. (See Philippians 4:6-7; Matthew 18:15-17; Matthew 5:23-24; Ephesians 4:32; Matthew 5:9)
We will respect those in leadership recognizing that Christ, as the Chief Shepherd, has committed to those in leadership the responsibility to shepherd the flock of God. We will honor those in leadership so that they may serve with joy, not grief. Leadership, as they are accountable to God for watching over souls, will exercise their oversight in a biblical manner and serve as godly examples to the flock. (See 1 Peter 5:1-3; Hebrews 13:17)
